If you are just joining me, you can catch up on the beginning of my gut healing protocol here.
I recently had a follow up appointment with my dietitian after she got the test results back from my organic acids test and yeast culture. It was really interesting to see how the deficiencies in my body are affecting the way that I feel. I told her that while my digestive symptoms were 75% better, I still had restless legs and was still feeling fatigued most of the time and struggling with mood swings and anxiety. The test results showed that I am deficient in vitamin B6 and magnesium, which is keeping my dopamine and serotonin levels low. This explains why I’m still having problems in these other areas. Additionally, the yeast culture showed that my gut bacteria is a little imbalanced.
Not much has changed in the protocol, other than the addition of a few new supplements. I really am feeling better, so I’m going to keep up with it and follow all of her suggestions.
My Curing Fructose Malabsorption Diet
As a recap, here is the diet I’ve been following, as recommended by my nutritionist:
- Gluten Free
- Dairy Free
- Corn Free
- Foods are organic; meats are free-range, hormone-free, antibiotic-free. Seafood is wild caught, not farmed.
- Filtered Water
- Low FODMAP diet to avoid fructose malabsorption triggers.
I also chose to eliminate:
- Soy
- Chocolate
- Caffeine
Supplements For Curing Fructose Malabsorption
I will continue to take the following supplements:
- GI Sustain medical food – 2 scoops, twice a day.
- Hemagenics iron supplment – 2 per day.
- Azeo-Pangen Extra Strength digestive enzymes – 3 per day, with meals.
- D3 5000 vitamin D – 1 per day.
- Omegagenics EPA-DHA 750 triglyceride form Omega 3’s- 1 per day.
My dietitian recommended adding the following supplements to address my remaining symptoms:
- UltraFlora IB (1 a day) – This is a probiotic for treating a mild imbalance of my gut bacteria.
- Trancor – This supplement contains vitamin B6 and magnesium, which will treat my anxiety and mood swings. It should also take care of the restless legs.
- Adreset – This supplement is meant to treat adrenal fatigue, and she suggested I take this to have more energy.
How much does all this cost?
A lot. But I’m saving money by ordering from websites that have some sort of incentive for buying. For instance, PureFormulas.com has free shipping, no sales tax and $10 off $100+ orders. As long as my orders are right around $100, I’m saving 10%. I’m also buying them on Amazon when I have a gift card balance (you can earn credits for using the Bing search engine and purchase an Amazon gift card with them) or a points balance from my credit card (both Visa and Discover let you pay for Amazon purchases with your points).
If I were paying for everything at full price, this is what it looks like:
It seems very expensive…and it is. However, I have been struggling for years with IBS symptoms and fatigue and all the other stuff. I obviously didn’t know how to manage it on my own, although I was doing a decent job of trying. This is why I sought help. I was at a point where I was willing to pay whatever it cost if someone could fix what was wrong with me. And I still feel this way. So here’s to an even better month 2!
